It is easier to just take Medicaid away from the states and Federalized it. Then Maryland will have more money for neccessary projects

O’Malley for instance didn’t exactly extend Medicaid to the full amount consider poor and a few did like Vermont. Medical Insurance is not what O’Malley has you believe it is. Medical Insurance does not protect you from Bankruptcy. In reality the Law didn’t address all those who are required to pay child support and the fact is those who have to pay more then 40 percent in income will end up likely going to lose their jobs or end up in prison depending who the head of child support enforcement is. Many states operate on mandatory arrest for failure to pay child support or like Maryland who the head of Child support enforcement is. Anyhow a lot will continue following their obligations and a few will get Medicaid. The act by Obama is a joke. In reality of bankruptcy many will lose their jobs just to help. The unemployed have not been addressed on Medicaid expansion. People should just ignore the law and question why Healthy Howard and a few places determine the jurisdiction. Ever watch a TV miniseries and some have strange sounding names.

Jeannie Haddaway, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, responded to this story in a press release:

“Under the O’Malley-Brown Administration, implementing the new health care law is more
about politics, marketing and spin than improving people’s lives. The
Administration wants everyone to believe that somehow Obamacare is free, as if
grants magically appear that nobody has to pay for. They even said no
state funds would be used to launch the exchange, which we later learned was
not true.

“If the new health care exchange is so great, then it should not take $24
million in marketing and technical assistance for people to use it. And
make no mistake, this so-called ‘outreach’ is targeted towards their political
base. It’s also strange that the O’Malley – Brown Administration takes
credit for creating 300 marketing temp jobs funded by our own tax dollars.
Government-run health care is bringing us an 83% healthcare tax. That
won’t be in the glossy brochures, because it’s a fact.”

Michael B,

Of course, the unemployed can’t pay premiums and co-pays… The same goes for the newly created “part-timers”….
But, the “Moronic Maryland Government” in Annapolis, in the counties and cites can’t seem to figure it out and never will…
And they’ll be rewarded by being re-elected by a “moronic” Maryland electorate !

Who will pay people to buy insurance when so many unemployed no longer receive UI payments? Can you use food stamps to buy a policy?

How will unemployed pay the co-pays?

The $20 the MD taxpayers are forking out up front to implement this monstrosity of a program is just the tip of the iceberg.

There is road construction in Maryland.

Any one with one brain cell knows from past experience with these power hungry, free spending clowns, they lack transparency & the ability to tell the truth to taxpayers. We were assured that no additional burden would be placed on MD taxpayers for the exchanges. If as Middleton suggests “everyone knew”, they sure didn’t publicize all the facts as to OUR responsibiity to fund this law. It’s ludicrous adding more taxes on cigarettes, talk abt pegging a benefit based on a losing proposition! DeMarco & his ilk may tout a decrease in smoking yet never mention that some are purchasing their habit out of state resulting in less taxes being collected to fund the shortfall in the exchange program. Just like the cost to taxpayers for O’Malley’s Dream Act, “infrastructure” improves & road repairs, the final tally will NEVER be the figure told to taxpayers. We must rely on local media (a joke) or on sites like MD Reporter.

The cost estimates for this program were underestimated.

I don’t know what the pay is, but navigator work is technical and most folks who would be good at this evidently are employed elsewhere; navigator jobs may be seen as dead-end employment.

Social media platforms are up and running but I see almost no activity indicating buyer interest.

I don’t think MD opening the electronic exchange is a safe bet yet; MD may have done its part, but the Federal data hub is up against a number of technical and logistical challenges.
